While this is a magical time, it can also end up being hugely costly – especially when you have to fork out for a decent gift for her baby shower. That’s why we thought we’d bring you a few cost-effective ways to get your friend the perfect baby shower gift – on a budget!

A Handmade Baby Basket

You can never go wrong with a gift basket – even an inexpensive one. Fill yours with a dummy, bib, baby lotion, shampoo and socks (i.e. items that won’t break the bank). Add a few personal touches in the form of balloons that symbolise the baby’s gender, stickers or dried flowers.

First Aid Kit

Most of the essential items that come in a first aid kit are forgotten by most parents when preparing for their bundle of joy. Sure, they know the importance of a crib, pram and car seat – but what about when baby falls ill and they need a thermometer or nasal aspirator. While it may not seem glamorous, a first aid kit is super handy. Add bottle cleaners and diaper rash lotion to your kit so mom has all her bases covered.

Changing Table Essentials

If you’ve ever been to a baby shower you’ll know that mom usually gets flooded with items like bottles and cute outfits – but something that’s usually overlooked (that mom actually needs the most) are things like diapers, wet wipes, baby powder, and baby bum ointment. Presentation is everything so give it to mom on a beautiful tray that can double up as a breakfast-in-bed platter.

Nursery Décor

If you know what the colour scheme is for baby’s nursery, you can use your imagination (and small budget) to add to it. Whether it’s painted wooden letters that spell the baby’s name, or a growth chart made from ribbons and bows, you can usually find home décor items for cheap at craft stores. Sure, it might take a few hours to create, but your effort will be greatly appreciated and mom will be able to use your offerings for years to come.

New Mom Wrap Bracelets

While baby shower gifts are usually centred around baba it’s always nice to spoil mom, too. We’re particularly fond of these gorgeous wrap bracelets that can easily be made with a bit of creativity, pieces of leather and inexpensive charms. Opt for colours that symbolise the baby’s sex. It’s the perfect symbol to commemorate her becoming a mom and a gift she’ll probably never take off.
