I’ll be the first to admit that although I love being behind the camera, shoot days are generally hard work and quite exhausting, but when you get the chance to shoot at a luxurious venue such as Morrells Boutique Hotel, it feels like you’re being pampered all day! My team and I recently spent two days at this first-class gem, nestled amongst the Jacaranda trees in the heart of Northcliff.

The boutique estate

It’s spots like these where luxury meets home-away-from-home warmth and hospitality. From the minute you open the gates, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the South of France, as the pristine gardens are filled with beautiful roses, lavender bushes and a very special olive grove- yum! We had the chance to explore the estate and visit the Provencal-inspired grand Manor House, as well as the gorgeous boutique venue (ideal for a romantic getaway in the city or intimate wedding) and the charming farmhouse which was originally built by the early Dutch settlers.

La Maison

The classic, yet modern décor in this space was wonderful for shooting. The grand piano, Cigar Lounge and quaint Chapel situated just outside made me feel as though I was living in a previous era. Not to mention how much we enjoyed the beautiful views of the gardens.

Our experience

Shooting at Morrells was a breeze and thoroughly enjoyable as the friendly staff did their best to accommodate us. As we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms, and were treated to a variety of delicious vegetarian snacks prepared specifically for us by the restaurant, throughout the morning. It really helped to keep our energy levels up!

We spent a lot of time shooting amongst the beautiful rose gardens in what felt like our very own secret garden – how could you not take advantage of such natural beauty! Little chickens ran free all around us and definitely added a special bit of magic to the morning.

The décor

Whether you’re staying in the opulent Manor House or country-style Farm House, it’s the attention to detail that makes all the difference. All rooms have their own en-suite bathrooms, with beautiful views of the surrounding gardens as most rooms have private wooden decks. Plus, there’s free WIFI (which came in handy on shoot day), gorgeous wooden floors, pressed ceilings and king-sized beds.

If I had to choose my favourite living space in the entire estate, it would have to be the two Farm House stable rooms, which were the original stables of the Dairy Farm that was situated just behind the farmhouse, they had so much character and charm. And the bonus is that interleading doors lead out onto the pool area, plus they have their own enclosed courtyard- ideal for morning tea in the fresh air.

Without a doubt, my team and I have given Morrells a five-star rating!
